This is part of the Independence mine near Palmer, Alaska. Erin and I have toured here many times because it never gets old.  Because of the heavy snow loads we receive every year the structures, little by little disappear.  One can walk through and look at a lot of the old gold mining equipment and buildings.  Some are in the process of restoring and others have been restored.  Back in the 1930's this was a very productive gold mining area and gold can still be found in the creeks surrounding the area.
