Tonight the snow was squeaky under my skis on the Palmer hay flats in sub zero temperatures as I made my way to watch the sun set.   The flats were farmed for hay until the 1964 earth quake (9.2) hit, it dropped anywhere between 6' and 18'.  Tidal waters now make it impossible to farm.  In the winter months the 2-4' of water is frozen and solid to walk on.  I skied a mile, all bundled up and with camera gear in tow, in foot deep powdery snow covered ice.
